Give Today: Caulk, Tools, Healthier Homes

Our Healthy Homes and Neighborhoods Program equips Fort Smith residents with the knowledge, skills, tools, and supplies to do basic home weatherproofing and home repairs. This is hands-on, practical help. It's a family staying warmer this winter and cooler in Arkansas' increasingly intense summer heat. It's a neighbor finally fixing a leaky faucet and seeing relief on their water bill. It's a community member hanging new blinds and curtains that makes their home more comfortable and gaining confidence to tackle other needed repairs.

If you've ever visited older homes, you've likely seen front doors with gaps at the bottom, single pane windows allowing in summer's heat and winter's cold, sockets that could be sealed, maybe even a leaky pipe under a kitchen sink. These are small problems, unless you don't have the tools, the supplies, or the know-how to fix them.

Through our Resource Center, Fort Smith neighbors can pick up free DIY weatherproofing supplies, like weatherstripping, caulk, and plastic window kits: the kind of small fixes that can meaningfully reducing a family's energy or water bill.

Through our free Tool Lending Library, families can also borrow the tools that complement those supplies (a wireless drill, laser levelers, stud finders, caulk guns, and plumbing tools like pipe wrenches) instead of buying something they'll use once and never touch again.

But your gift does more than stock our shelves and tool racks.

The same staff who run the Resource Center also support our community garden projects and our climate education and outreach work.
